• Evil Trout Games

  2026 / Design, Development

  With Robin Ward, of Evil Trout inc., I created websites for The Roottrees are Dead and The Incident At Galley House, two thinky games which started as game jam darlings, then got re-made for a Steam release with Evil Trout as the publisher (to great success!). I also ran a round of style and structure updates to the Evil Trout website itself. I’m particularly proud of the accessible curly ribbon navigation in that one.

  I was responsible for both the design and development of the websites, which allowed the nimble team to stay focused on their own development tasks.

• Tchat N Sign

  2022-2025 / Design, Development

  

  I led design for the transition of Tchat N Sign’s platform from MVP to market-ready app. I created a design system through which the app could be expanded and worked on, then accompanied the product and development team through implementing key features over a few years.

• Metrics Watch

  2017-2024 / Design, Development

  

  I worked with Metrics Watch on their rebrand, their marketing website, app design, and development – especially the React portion of it. JP Boily, solo founder, trusted me for seven years, and I went from the only collaborator to working alongside a small talented team. I remained the design partner of choice until the business was eventually sold to new owners.

• Hookt Studios + Didacte

  2013-2016 / Design

  I was creative lead at Hookt Studios, where I was in charge of the design process for each project. I worked between product managers and developers, taking plans and priorities and turning them into ready-to-implement digital products.

  We also partnered with long-time client Kronos Technologies to launch Didacte, an online learning platform that eventually became Workleap LMS.

• Mirego

  2011-2013, 2017-2019 / Design

  

  I joined Mirego’s fantastic team (twice!) to work as a digital designer, first focusing on mobile apps in the early iPhone days, then settling into a mix of mobile and web design. I worked with startups as well as large established organizations. Chances are you’re using one or another of the apps I worked on while I was there.

Relevant skills

• 0 → 1 product design

  Working with small teams and founders, I’ve become very good at helping people go from I have an idea to I know exactly what we’re going to do. I treat design as the (fun, difficult) act of planning how to turn an idea and vision into something that’s ready to get implemented.

• User experience

  I’ve been structuring apps since before UX became the mot du jour with leadership. My work involves defining user flows, auditing existing solutions. In particular, I make sure that whatever process gets moved to a digital equivalent actually improves on its current analog.

• Interface design

  I make personality coexist with function. I build strong interfaces by making them visually clear, strong in their identity and branding, and by making sure they’re easy to use with the right mix of organization and visual cues.

• Front-of-the-front-end

  I take part in developing the final interface. Usually, I’m at my best when I support a front-end team or person, and contribute with code that directly controls the appearance of the interface. For small-scale web projects, I sometimes take charge of complete development.
